Faculty invited to attend May 17 information session on 2024 Breakthrough Award opportunities
The John Martinson Honors College’s Breakthrough Research Award aims to support Purdue faculty conducting high-impact research or creative projects with a team of 5-8 JMHC students. This year, faculty are invited to submit proposals related to health and well-being that offer immersive undergraduate research or creative experiences. The Call for Proposals including application submission guidelines will open Wednesday, May 15. Deadline for submission is July 15.
Individuals are invited to register for an informational Zoom session, which takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, May 17. A Zoom link and calendar invite will be shared with those who register.
Eligibility: Purdue faculty (tenure-track, clinical, lecturer) from all disciplines at Purdue's West Lafayette and Indianapolis locations should consider applying to fund their high-quality research, scholarship or creative inquiry with undergraduates. The opportunity will support faculty in preparing for larger research grants, expanding the scope of their research and experimenting with non-traditional and translational research outcomes.
Award Budget and Anticipated Number of Awards: Awards will range from $50,000-$75,000. The JMHC anticipates funding a total of four awards to Purdue faculty in West Lafayette and Indianapolis.
Health and Well-being: For 2024-2025, the research theme is Health and Well-being. The image below shows some of the themes identified in a JMHC student survey that highlighted topics students were most interested in researching. This is not a comprehensive list, but can be used to illustrate the breadth, depth and interconnected nature of these issues. Please consider submitting proposals related to research topics that range from physical and mental health, healthcare for all individuals, and healing and revitalization of local and global communities.
The call for applications will be available on May 15 on the JMHC's Breakthrough Awards website. Information on last year’s awardees can be found here.
