Beering Scholars

The Beering Scholars enroll in the John Martinson Honors College in addition to their home disciplinary college.

The Beering Scholarship program was created by Purdue’s ninth president, Dr. Steven C. Beering, who raised private funds for the endowment.

The Beering Scholarship recipients can pursue one bachelor’s degree, one master’s degree or an MBA and one doctoral degree at Purdue or medical school through Indiana University. The program also covers the standard value, cost of attendance for degree programs and one-time study abroad opportunity during the undergraduate degree program.

Admission Process for the Beering Scholarship

Purdue University uses the Common App for admission purposes.

To qualify as a Purdue candidate for the Beering Scholarship, a student must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  • Apply for admission to Purdue West Lafayette and complete the John Martinson Honors College portion of the Purdue application as an entering first-year student by November 1.

A preliminary holistic evaluation of Purdue candidates will be based upon their admissions application and a select number of students will be invited to apply for several of Purdue’s prestigious merit awards, including the Beering Scholarship.
