Fall 2021 Honors College Completers Celebrated In Medallion Ceremony

Dec 16, 2021

Honors College student Neha Gunapati greeted her fellow graduates with reminiscence of fun times, hard work, community, and friendship in her remarks to the Honors College completers on Tuesday in Honors Hall. Gunapati recalled her time as a student and the many hours spent in that very room, the site of the 2021 Fall Medallion Ceremony. She recounted the classes, study sessions, group projects, and presentations of which she’d been a part. In her moments of nostalgia, Neha reminded us that the Honors College is so much more than academics, saying “the Honors College faculty are people we can reach out to about anything and communicate with as equals”. This, a sentiment she explained made her feel cared for and validated, remains among her fond memories of her time at Purdue. Read Gunapati’s speech in its entirety.

Twenty-nine students completed the Honors College curriculum this December and earned degrees in their respective fields. Among them, 18 were present for the medallion ceremony on Tuesday. For all 29 students, this marked a close to one chapter and the beginning of another. The journey, for these scholars, has just begun. Rhonda Phillips, Dean of the Purdue Honors College, addressed the crowd with warm welcome and praise to the students. Phillips celebrated the accomplishments of the Honors College completers as she spoke to them directly. “You have persevered through unprecedented challenges. We cannot be prouder of how you continue to adapt to these highly unusual circumstances. This has displayed your dedication to life-long learning and growth”, Phillips exclaimed. “The flexibility and commitment will serve you well as you go out into the world.”

Honors College completers each received a medallion commemorating their achievement. Following the ceremony, students and their families enjoyed a reception with faculty and staff.
